2010 community connection series a slam dunk

Yesterday evening I had the pleasure of attending Microsoft’s EnergizeIT: Community Connection series in Ottawa (this is the evening version of the full day EnergizeIT: From the Client to the Cloud series).

The presentation was incredibly informative as well as entertaining. Senior IT Pro Advisor Rick Claus and Senior Developer Evangelist Christian Beauclair (both from Microsoft Canada) played off one another with scenario where they obtained some venture capital funding and launched an insurance company, coded some software, set up some back-end databases (in the cloud), set up client interfaces, tested it, launched it, and used it – all in 2.5 hours.

The promo for the event is: Your opportunity to learn how to harness the power and flexibility of the Microsoft-based platform from the client to the cloud. It truly delivered.

Go to www.energizeit.ca to register – the tour is still in progress.

Bradley Bird, the president of the Ottawa Windows Server User Group (OWSUG) and his team hosted the session with pizza galore and some great prizes at the end.

Thanks OWSUG

Just had a great evening yesterday at the Ottawa Windows Server User Group Meeting (OWSUG). Had a deep dive into Windows 7. Lots of great insight from the very smart IT crowd on the tradeoffs on deployment options. RoveIT's product manager, Jason Gallaugher provided a Rove Mobile Admin demo that was well received by the crowd. We also met a few of the Ottawa-based MVPs. And of course, we ended the evening with some refreshments and great conversation. Can't wait for Energize IT here in Ottawa this coming Wednesday. Check out the OWSUG site.

More resources for you IT professionals

The MS Canada folks seem to have a well kept secret going -- their IT Pro Connection Blog. It contains timely tips on everything a MS IT pro could need (whether living up here in the great white north or not), including a new podcast series on Office 2010, and technical posts on security and server migration. If you are living up here, you'll be able to find all the info you need about the EnergizeIT Week. (http://blogs.technet.com/canitpro/)
