More resources for you IT professionals

The MS Canada folks seem to have a well kept secret going -- their IT Pro Connection Blog. It contains timely tips on everything a MS IT pro could need (whether living up here in the great white north or not), including a new podcast series on Office 2010, and technical posts on security and server migration. If you are living up here, you'll be able to find all the info you need about the EnergizeIT Week. (http://blogs.technet.com/canitpro/)

How many servers can you manage?

Just reading my daily dose of IT News and Info and can’t help but feel for the IT Admins who are stretched to the max. In CIO Insight's Trends Slideshow "Five CIOs Set Their Priorities for 2010", one CIO’s priority is Resource Optimization – i.e. stretching IT assets to the max including IT staff, hardware and software. On Data Center Knowledge, there’s a discussion about how many servers can each sysadmin be expected to manage. This one has many interesting comments relating to the types of servers and breadth of applications they provide. We'd like to hear about what you're managing, especially the things that make your admin life absolutely crazy.

Happy New Year! — Money and Virtualization are two of the top items on IT’s wish list for 2010

According to industry analysts, it wasn’t a fun year for most IT managers with budgets being slashed and demand for services on the rise. The good news is that many budgets will grow in 2010, but for those staying flat, IT is looking at virtualization to make the most out of what they have (http://bit.ly/7olcBw).

We’re looking forward to helping IT with their virtualization needs in 2010 with our support for VMware Infrastructure Management and MS Hyper-V.  And, as always, there is nothing like being able to get the job done anywhere at anytime: incidents get resolved, costs stay down, users are satisfied.

Here’s to a prosperous and successful 2010!

Winners of the Worst IT Disaster Story Revealed on Crackberry

The worst IT disaster stories were just that, complete and utter disasters. Systems down, overlooked test scripts, long drives in hazardous weather conditions, and huge stress — seems it’s the norm for hard-working IT administrators to rearrange their lives and miss out on free time and holidays.

In case you missed them, they’re all summarized in this Mobile Admin Contest Winners post on crackberry.com. It kills me that someone would have to risk life and limb to get back to the office to do something that could have been done remotely.

Congratulations once again to our winners who, now with Mobile Admin, have taken control of their time and their lives.

Stay tuned, more winners will be revealed on www.wmexperts.com.
